Uplifting awards show BET HONORS 2013 ignited the Warner Theater, Washington, D.C., with a series of soul-stirring performances from Erykah Badu, Wayne Brady, Brandy, Mint Condition, Jimmy Jam, Alicia Keys, Ledisi, the SOS Band and Terry Lewis.
Hosted by gorgeous Bad Boys II and City of Angels actress Gabrielle Union, this year’s star studded event was taped on Saturday 12 January 2013 and will premiere across Africa on BET International on Saturday 16 February at 21:00 WAT/22:00 CAT/23:00 EAT.
The 2013 awards recipients include Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry and ten-time GRAMMY award winner and international music icon Chaka Khan who will be celebrating 40 years in music and entertainment this year. Other honorees include music executive, film producer and entrepreneur Clarence Avant, known to many as the “Godfather of Black Music”, four-time Olympic women’s basketball gold medallist Lisa Leslie and spiritual educator and author T.D. Jakes.
The BET HONORS celebrates the achievements of distinguished African Americans in the realms of music, literature, entertainment, media, public service and education. Past honourees have included Maya Angelou, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Spike Lee, Jamie Foxx, Iman, Herbie Hancock, Whitney Houston, Queen Latifah and Sean "Diddy" Combs. Memorable past performances include Trey Songz, Ne-Yo, Yolanda Adams, Keyshia Cole, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige and Patti LaBelle.
Stephen Hill, President of Music Programming and Specials, BET Networks, and Lynne Harris Taylor, Vice President of Specials, BET Networks are executive producers, along with Jesse Collins of Jesse Collins Productions.
