Lady Gaga's remaining Born This Way Ball tour dates have been cancelled because the singer has to have hip surgery.

A statement posted to the singer's Little Monsters social network yesterday explained that Gaga will require surgery for a hip injury, after which she has been ordered by doctors to rest.

The statement reads: "Live Nation Global Touring has confirmed that the remainder of the Lady GaGa 'Born This Way Ball' performances have been cancelled."

"After additional tests this morning to review the severity of the issue, it has been determined that Lady GaGa has a labral tear of the right hip. She will need surgery to repair the problem, followed by strict down time to recover. This unfortunately, will force her to cancel the tour, so she can heal.

"Refunds for the cancelled performances will be available at point of purchase starting Feb 14, 2013."

News of the cancellation came just hours after it was announced yesterday that the singer had postponed four performances in Chicago, Detroit and Hamilton. At the time, Gaga apologised for the cancellations, saying that she had been hiding a "show injury and chronic pain" in the hope that it would heal naturally.
